Could you
please remove your leg, sir?
Airline security staff may not be looking for kittens or
monkeys. But they are aware of the illegal trade in
endangered reptiles. So how do you
transport three iguanas across the world?
No Spare
Leg
US prosecutors claim that a
Californian Jereme James stole the bright green lizards
from a nature reserve in Fiji. James then
smuggled the iguanas back to the
United States by hiding them in a special compartment in
his prosthetic leg.
This not surprising. Airline staff are not trained to say,
‘Could you please take your leg off, sir?’ And
most iguana smugglers don’t have a
spare leg.
Mr James now faces up to five years in
prison.
